Youth Group Memories And Stuff Christian’s Like

I am addicted to a new blog – Stuff Christian’s Like by author Prodigal Jon. He wrote a recent post that brought back some youth group memories from my high school days…

Stuff Christian’s Like #124. The Kid That Makes Out With Girls From Other Youth Groups.
You had this kid in your youth group, I know you did. If I asked you his name you could post it in a comment in about 3.7 seconds. His name was always Trey or Marc with a “c”. And he had nice hair, more confidence than a kid his age should have and usually had an older sibling that taught him all about the cool music that kids in higher grades were listening to. He sometimes owned an acoustic guitar and had a wallet on a chain. Worse of all, as soon as your youth group ever went to some sort of camp or ski retreat with other youth groups, he immediately wooed all the new pretty girls. It was like he had some sort of cool kid power. You were still unpacking your clothes for camp and he was throwing Frisbee with someone pretty not from your youth group outside. I was not this kid. It was not for lack of trying. I wanted to be this kid. Promise. But I was the pastor’s kid and that’s a different kind of kid altogether.

OK – If you attended a youth group growing up were you this kid?

Nah, I was the kid that couldn’t WAIT for youth group cause I knew it was going to be the bestest part of my week.

I could tell you who was “our kid” though-his name was Mike. And oh, boy. Did he give those leaders a run for their money.
