Military Memories

It is days like today (Memorial Day) that cause me to reflect on my military experience in the Air Force. While I discovered that security and law enforcement wasn’t a real passion for me, I did like the Air Force. The memories I have from that experience are good ones. Plus the military helped me become more disciplined and provided me with some structure in my life when I needed it.

The people I served with were committed to doing the best job we possibly could and during my stay at Malmstrom we won numerous awards for performing our mission well. The US Air Force is known for doing security and law enforcement with excellence. While in training down at Lackland AFB I learned that the Air Force actually trains the security and law enforcement personnel for the US Marines and the Navy.

Probably the best thing the military did for me was help me confirm my desire to enter into full-time ministry. Having to move so far away from my family forced me to connect with God and a local church in a deep way. I was able to have great discussions and with some men and women at some critical points in their lives. Without that experience I don’t know if I would have ended up here in PA when CCV was getting started. Nor would I have had some of the opportunities that have come my way. I really do thank God, and the men and women I served with, for the experience.
