God – A Boy – And A Bike

My wife recently blogged about a new bike my son received as a gift and it is pretty cool. Not only does it have pedals for his feet but it has a hand crank on the handlebars to add to the workout he gets when riding. Man does he love it!

Michael really likes it when he knows I’m not holding on. He gives me a big smile and is thrilled that he is riding the bike on his own. You’ll notice in the photo that there is an extended handle that I can hold on to to keep him out of trouble. Sometimes I’ll also use it to give him an extra push when he needs some help going up a steep hill.

After our ride the other day the whole thing reminded me about our relationship with God. Sometimes we get so proud and desperately want to live life on our own power. We make the mistake of thinking we can do it on our own and that God is simply watching. Instead we should want God very involved in everything we do and everywhere we go. We need Him involved, keeping us out of trouble and giving us the extra push we need when life gets tough.

As a church we are in a study on the book of Proverbs and it reminds me of what I was reading a few days ago…

2 All a man’s ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.

3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed.
