Easy and Free Greek Study Tools

A big part of my personal Bible study and sermon preparation includes spending time in the original language.  While I have had some education on Biblical languages I’m not at all an expert and thus have spent significant money and time on tools to bridge the gap.  I’ve used expensive tools like QuickVerse and Logos and lots of different concordances and word study dictionaries.  Even those hard cover and paperback books can cost around $100 each.

However, with technology at our fingertips and the internet creating opportunities to share information quickly, new tools are constantly being developed. About a year ago I discovered another great find on the web to make things easier… and its FREE.  A website called Great Treasures.

As you can see from the image, it allows you to read through the Bible in parallel form while choosing from a wide variety of translations.  But the best part is that you can click on any Greek word or any English word (from the KJV) and the Greek definition will display in the box below in short form or a more in-depth review.  In addition, the tool will also display other locations throughout scripture where that Greek word is used to aid you in your study.

Taking advantage of tools like this one will not only save you money but lots of time.  Instead of flipping through hundreds of pages you can get instant results with the click of a mouse.

The Online Bible is another free site with Greek and Strong’s Numbers. The free download is at http://www.onlinebible.net/.

I find this very useful! I think its always interesting to find out about new and useful tools to help us gain a better understanding of God’s word. Very often I hear of varying meanings across translations, going back to the Greek translation, I believe, takes away some of that gray area. I think sharing tools like this is incredibly effective in serving one another and helping others shake-up their usual routine.
