What You Miss When You Don’t Slow Down

// June 18th, 2009 // No Comments » // family

Every so often I have a conversation with my Dad that makes me think about my life and lessons I’m currently learning.  During our morning coffee out by the pool he asked me what this time off has been teaching me.  It took me a moment to answer but here is what I came up with,

YOU CAN DO LESS AND BE HAPPY.

Here is the myth I bought into.  In order to be happy I had to stay busy.  Constantly on the go with things.  Busy with work, busy with projects, busy with life.  Constantly asking myself what’s next instead of taking quiet time and enjoying my kids and making sure that regularly get out with my wife.  I get so much gratification by working my way through lists and my love for my job that I forget to slow down.  This time off has been great and I have had the chance to enjoy my family, recharge and remember that balance in life is important.

We Made It!

WeekiWachee

It took us a full two days but we made it to Florida!  Unbelievable with two toddlers.  The boys were so good through the whole trip.  We kept their bellies full with McD’s and The Cracker Barrel and that seemed to keep them pretty happy.  The postcard at the top of the post is an old one from Weeki Wachie, Florida.  My parent’s new home, in the quite rural suburbs way outside of Tampa.  Just so you know how rural… the 2000 census recorded only 12 people living here and the big attraction is a state park with mermaids??? I’m sure there are a few more people here now but not many.

While its quiet, I think this is exactly what we need.  My parents have a beautiful house with a nice pool that is sooooo peaceful.  I love their house and the fact that it is out of the hustle and bustle of town.  I’m sure the kids will love it here and I’m looking forward to some reading, swimming, and family time.  I’ll post some pictures with the kids soon.

Road Trip!

// June 14th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // family

After a great week with some of Shelli’s family we will be heading on a road trip!  I am sure it will be quite an interesting time for us, as this will be the first one of its kind for our kids.  Bringing two toddlers in the car to Florida will be quite the experience… I’m sure I’ll have stories to tell!  We are prepared though – DVDs, music, toys and an SUV packed and prepared for any situation! So I feel we are ready to go.  I’ll try to post updates to keep you in the loop.  If you know of any must see spots along 95 to Florida leave me a comment!

Daddy Got Mad…

// February 1st, 2009 // No Comments » // family

So I got home from work the other day and walked into the kitchen where my wife was giggling profusely. I shouldn’t have asked… but I did, “What’s so funny?”

She quickly replied, “You will not believe the stories your son was telling at snack time, and to me during the whole ride home today. Boy did the teachers have fun laughing at this one!”

Here is what my boy was telling the world about his daddy and AJ:

Daddy got mad at AJ.

AJ not eat dinner and daddy talk loud.

Daddy say, you eat dinner, AJ!

AJ not eat.AJ get down.AJ no like hot dog.

Daddy frown at AJ.

He not happy.

AJ not good boy.

As you can see from Michael’s narration, AJ gave me a bit of trouble during dinner. Plus in the picture above you can see quite clearly that Michael is showing the world how his daddy looks when he’s mad.

Don’t mess with daddy!

Chiapperino Disney – 2010

// January 20th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // family

We take a nice vacation as a family every two years. It takes us some time to save up, but it is so worth it. I think Disney found out that each year we set up a day we call Commando Day as a family where we strategically attack the parks from sunrise to sunset. Each meal and ride is carfully planned and executed. If you click below and watch the video you can see that Disney is making preperations for my arrival.

Update: I fixed the video link if it didn’t work on your last visit!
